Executive Director

Barry Klaung has served as Executive Director of New Horizons Counseling Center for many years, bringing both clinical expertise and steady leadership to the organization. A lifelong resident of Winnebago County — born and raised in Rockford, IL — Barry holds a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota. He is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). Barry's clinical interests center on counseling men, Abuse Intervention Services, group counseling, and working with couples. He practices from a person-centered foundation, drawing on Cognitive Behavioral, Insight Oriented, and Psycho-educational approaches to help clients manage life's challenges and build more fulfilling relationships. His guiding philosophy is one of good stewardship — toward himself, the people he works with, and the broader community. A phrase clients often hear from him: "It's not the end of the world." Outside of work, Barry enjoys spending time with his family, canoeing, bicycling, collecting books, and listening to the Blues.
